Perceptions, Patterns, and Products

“Research is about creating new knowledge, exploring the unknown, and finding solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. It is not just a job, but a passion, a calling, and a way of life”. On April 20, 2023, Adani University hosted the first session of its ‘Research Talk Series’, featuring an engaging delivery by Prof. M. Muruganant, Provost, Adani University on “Perceptions, Patterns, and Products,” where he shared his knowledge on the development of new materials. Moreover, Prof. Muruganant has presented case studies from prestigious institutions he associated with (Cambridge, UK, ORNL, USA; RWTH, Aachen; ABB, Sweden; IITM, India; UoW, Australia) and demonstrated how materials innovation can be achieved using tools like artificial neural networks, physics-based models, computational thermodynamics and optimization algorithms. He also discussed the concept of “inverse models,” which significantly reduce product development cycle times, shortening the development cycle from 36 months (about 3 years) to just 6 months at Technology Readiness Level 3 (TRL-3). The talk emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary approaches in finding solutions that transcend disciplinary silos. In essence, Prof. Muruganant’s talk covered information, patterns, implementation and impact, providing valuable insights into the future of materials development and innovation.
