Expert Workshop on Sustainable Runway Pavement Design using FAARFIELD

The Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering at Adani University successfully organized an intensive hands-on software workshop on September 17, 2026. Tailored specifically for the VII-semester B.Tech Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (CIE) students, the session focused on the “Application of FAARFIELD Software for Runway Pavement Design.” The initiative aimed to bridge academic theory with industry-grade infrastructure design practices, guided by the profound expertise of distinguished academician Dr. L. B. Zala (Retd. Professor and HOD, CED, BVM, VVNagar).

The specialized workshop featured comprehensive sessions covering key contemporary topics in airport infrastructure, including:

  • Fundamentals of FAARFIELD: Introduction to the software and its critical role in modern aviation infrastructure planning.
  • Sustainable Pavement Design: Incorporating eco-friendly construction techniques and sustainable methodologies for modern runways.
  • Material Evaluation and Selection: Identifying and analyzing appropriate materials for both rigid and flexible pavement systems.
  • Simulated Design Scenarios: Real-time troubleshooting and hands-on practice with complex engineering parameters.

The workshop offered an in-depth perspective on how digital tools are transforming heavy infrastructure construction. Students actively engaged in the hands-on exercises, running structural simulations and translating classroom concepts into practical digital models.

The session witnessed highly enthusiastic participation from the final-year students, who benefited immensely from the interactive environment and direct mentorship of an industry veteran. This initiative provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and technical skill development, reinforcing Adani University’s commitment to outcome-based education and ensuring our future engineers are exceptionally prepared for real-world industry challenges.
